University Overview

This university was established in 1986 as the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery with the admission of 42 students in the Associate Degree in Nursing under the supervision of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. The program was upgraded to a Bachelor’s degree the following year. Since 1995, after separating from Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, it has operated as one of the 42 independent medical universities in the country, under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Health, providing education, healthcare, and treatment services. From 2005, new academic programs were gradually added and existing ones upgraded. In 2008, the Supreme Council for the Development of Universities approved its promotion to a full university and the establishment of three independent faculties: Paramedicine, Public Health, and Nursing & Midwifery. Later that year, it also granted permission to admit medical students and establish a Faculty of Medicine.

Currently, the university has four independent faculties, four research centers, two hospitals with 387 approved beds, 18 comprehensive health service centers, 50 health houses, about 1,900 students, 127 faculty members, and approximately 1,900 staff. In addition, with 16 road and urban emergency bases and one air emergency base, it ranks first in the country relative to population.

Notably, due to its exceptional geographical position, the university not only officially covers the healthcare network of Bajestan County, but can also provide services within a 100-kilometer radius, benefiting a population of about one million.
